“If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
I have a friend who is an incredible golfer.
He pipes it down the center every time.
He stripes a 3 iron as pure as you can imagine.
And if he does get into trouble, he can scramble like Jordan Speith.
He’d also use this talent to make some side money by beating golfers like me on the weekends.
No matter how many strokes he would give us, he’d win.
He started to build up an audience of want-to-be-good weekend golfers who would pay him cash for some lessons here and there.
Between the money on the course and his lessons, he started to see more and more cash come in.
He always had the entrepreneurial itch so, he decided to open a golf school.
He got busy fast.
He was great with kids so all the guys he was taking money off took their kids to him.
He had built a reputation as a local money game legend, so he also got some pretty good adults going to him.
It quickly got to the point where it was hard to get a lesson because he was so busy.
Wonderful except for one thing – he hated it.
He used to be on the course with friends and having fun playing golf.
Now, he can’t motivate himself to get up in the morning.
Why?
Because he’s busiest in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
And while the cash is coming in, his buddies are playing golf, having fun, and spending time with their families.
Golf was once a passion. Now it’s a job.
Here’s the point…
Find the right business based on what you do best, and you will have tons of time and make enough money to devote to your hobby.
Most of us want to build a business that makes us so much money we can do what we love whenever we want.
It’s the freedom to enjoy what we want while not having to work at a job we hate.
It’s the ability to build a healthy income stream that puts money into our bank account without us having to kill ourselves working 80-hour weeks.
It’s the ability to build an income-producing asset that we can pass down to our kids or sell when we’re ready to exit.
Sure, it takes hard work to build the business to a point where it’s cash-flowing and running as we want it, however, the key to this whole thing is making sure the work is worth it!
If you can forget the “do what you love advice” and focus on finding a business that you can build so you can actually do more of what you love while not working, your mind will be opened to some amazing businesses.
